Letter Arrangement - Random Sequence

Letter Arrangement: Letter arrangement means that an arrangement of letters is given and we are to answer the question after analysing the arrangement.

Random Sequence: The arrangement is given in random order that is each question has a particular arrangement of letter. The candidate has to answer the question after a deep investigation of the order.. In these questions the student has to find a letter from the left or right end from a random sequence of letters.

Illustration:  If letters from A to M were written, leaving space for one letter between every two letters, and then the remaining letters were inserted, beginning with N and ending the series with Z after M. Which letter would the third to the left of the seventh letter from the left be?

A. C                   B. O              C. R                  D. S

Answer : B

Solution.   It is given that a letter is placed between two letter. We have shown one series with bold letters and the other elements have been inserted in between. Here A, B, C, .... are shown in bold letters and N, O, P, ... have been inserted in between. Thus the letter series becomes:

A N B O C P D Q E R F S G T H U I V J W K X L Y M Z

The third letter to the left of the seventh letter from the left means (7-3) = 4th letter from the left end. In the series the 4th letter is O.

Illustration: Write the first half of the alphabets in reverse order and then the remaining half in reverse order, then find how many letter are there between C and T?

A.  7                 B.  16                 C. 8                    D. 15

Answer: C

Solution: According to the question the arrangement will be

M, L, K, J, I, H, G, F, E, D, C, B, A, Z, Y, X, W, V, U, T, S, R, Q, P, O,  N

We see that between C and T the letter are  B, A, Z, Y, X, W, V, U, that is 8. So the correct option is C
